“I can’t afford viagra” – that’s the question being asked at the start of a new series of commercials for the brand-new Viagra. “What can I do about this?” asks Dr. Tom Fussell, one of the team at the New York-based pharmaceutical company that makes the new drug.
“I have a very good family,” Fussell recalls of his time in the field. “We did it for a short amount of time, so we knew we had something. I went to the doctor and I said, ‘I’m tired, I have a certain disease, I’ve got to take the medication,’ and he said, ‘Well, if you take it and you’re not working as well as you used to, then I’ll take the pill.’ “
The company says it’s a matter of personal choice, so they say you can get it at any pharmacy, but the real problem is you can’t afford it at the pharmacy.”
That’s why Dr. Fussell is launching a campaign to show off how much Viagra you can take without breaking the bank.
“Viagra is a very important medication for me,” Fussell says. “It’s been going on for decades, and it’s very important for men to be able to buy it.”
The pharmaceutical company’s new drug, Pfizer’s impotence pill, has been around for years. It’s the first drug to be marketed under that name, but the FDA isn’t ready to give it a go, and so Pfizer’s Viagra is in short supply.
The Food and Drug Administration is considering whether the new drug would be a better option for men and women, as well as for patients and their families.
“I think the FDA is considering it,” Fussell says. “It’s very important that all drugs are approved by the FDA, and that they’re approved by the Food and Drug Administration.”
That’s because the FDA doesn’t have to approve Viagra for women, too. But a recent study by the company showed that the drug has the potential to cause a new form of erectile dysfunction, the most common form of impotence.
The FDA says the new drug can’t be used in men who have erectile dysfunction because it’s not the drug that’s causing the problem, but it can be used in women.
“The problem with Viagra is it’s not the same thing as what you get with Levitra or Cialis,” Fussell says.
“It’s a very dangerous drug, and it’s not being used by women,” Fussell says.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Tom Fussell said Viagra might help treat impotence, but it doesn’t improve any one patient’s sexual performance. In fact, the condition is so common it has become the top cause of ED diagnoses worldwide.
“I don’t think Viagra is a great medication for men,” Fussell says. “And so I’m not sure that’s a good thing for women.”
The company has also recently come out with a new drug to treat female sexual dysfunction, called flibanserin, which is sold under the name Addyi. The FDA says it’s a “small molecule drug” that will be sold under the name Addyi.
Fussell says the drug is only for women who have not been diagnosed with ED, but he and other female patients who take Addyi say it might be the drug for women who are also suffering from a more serious condition.
The drug is to be sold under the brand name Addyi and will be available from July 1. It’s expected to hit stores in late May.
But Fussell says the company is trying to get women to take the drug. He says they’ll be waiting for the product’s approval by the FDA. That could mean the FDA will give the drug to women in the form of a pink pill that will have a longer shelf life than Addyi.
